Rather than taking the risk of travelling through the Red Sea on their way to and from the Suez Canal, some large shipping companies are avoiding the region altogether, opting for a much longer trip around the Cape of Good Hope.
This diversion means longer journeys, which translates to increased fuel consumption, higher operational costs, and extended delivery times. These changes have a ripple effect, affecting the schedule and cost efficiency of operations, including the deliveries of our teak furniture.
What Does this Mean for Mr Teak Customers?
Fortunately, we currently hold a large amount of stock, so at this point in time we’re under no pressure to react.
However, shipping container costs have increased by 329% since the disruption started and if normal shipping activity is not resumed soon, then these costs could continue to rise throughout the year.
While we will do our best to absorb these increases, it’s likely that some of these costs may be passed onto the end user should they continue to rise.
Delays on future deliveries are likely, but we will highlight this on our site when we run out of our current stock.
